Create a project and upload songs

Make a project for an album, EP or single, upload your mixes, and check where each file goes before it uploads.

Available on Artist · Producer · Studio · Label

This guide is for artists, producers, studios and labels putting music into VYNLT. A project holds songs: an album, EP, single, beat pack or writing camp. Each song (called a track in some places) keeps every version you upload.

Create a project

  1. Open Library (called Songs & projects in the Artist and Producer views).
  2. Choose New project.
  3. Enter a Title and, if you like, the Artist.
  4. Pick a Type, such as album, EP or single.
  5. If you belong to more than one workspace, choose the Workspace it belongs to. Under Start from you can pick a template, or leave Empty project.
  6. Choose Create.

Upload music

  1. Open the project and choose Upload, or drag your files onto the project page (Drag your mixes here).
  2. VYNLT accepts WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3 and M4A. Your original file is kept untouched; VYNLT makes a separate streaming copy.
  3. A review window (Add 3 files, for example) shows each file, the song it will go to and what kind of version it is (Demo, Mix, Master or Other).
  4. Check each row. A file whose name matches an existing song becomes that song's next version. Pick New song… to start a new song instead, and edit the names under New song titles.
  5. Choose Upload.

To add an empty song first, open the project's More (⋯) menu and choose Add track.

What you'll see

  • Each file shows processing for a short while, then plays. The waveform, loudness and streaming copy are made in this step.
  • The newest upload of a song becomes its CURRENT version. See Versions and CURRENT.
  • The project's More (⋯) menu has Edit details, Collaborators, Download for offline, Export metadata (CSV), History & snapshots, Archive and Move to Trash…, depending on your role.

Common problems

  • "processing failed". The file may be damaged or in a format we can't read. Export it again from your DAW as WAV and upload again.
  • "Too large: the limit is … per file." Each file has a size limit, shown in the review window. Export a shorter file or a smaller format.
  • A file went to the wrong song. Open the version's options (⋯) in the Versions tab and choose Move to song….
  • There's no Upload button. Your role in this project doesn't allow uploads. Ask a manager for the Uploader role or higher.
  • Want unsorted files to wait first? Use Upload to Drafts instead. See Drafts.
