FAQ
Questions, answered.
Straight answers to what studios, artists and labels ask first.
What it is
Does VYNLT replace my DAW?
No. You make music in Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton or whatever you use. VYNLT is what happens after you press Bounce: versions, feedback, approvals, masters, sharing and backup.
Does it replace Google Drive or Dropbox?
For songs, yes: it replaces the folders, the links and the FINAL_FINAL file names. It can also back up into your Drive or Dropbox, so the storage you already pay for stays useful as an independent copy.
What is Current vs Approved vs Official Master?
CURRENT is the newest version of a song; it moves when a new one lands. APPROVED is the version the team signed off at a stage, with a named approver and the file’s checksum. OFFICIAL MASTER is the final, locked master that gets released, one per song plus its variants.
Are previous mixes kept?
All of them. Versions are never overwritten; each new one gets the next number.
Files and storage
Can I keep files on my computer?
Yes. VYNLT Desktop keeps the projects you choose synced to a normal folder, organised by song, and works offline.
Can I use my own cloud storage?
Yes. Back up to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, a WebDAV server or a local folder or NAS. Each backup is verified by checksum and includes a manifest that can rebuild the library.
What is Sync vs Backup?
Sync keeps chosen projects the same on your computer and in VYNLT Cloud. Backup copies everything to storage you own and keeps it, even when songs are removed in the app. Neither ever overwrites your changes: disagreements become conflicts with both copies kept.
Can I download original WAVs?
Yes, byte for byte as uploaded, if your role allows downloads (Editor and above by default). Streams use compressed copies; downloads are the original.
Can producers upload from desktop?
Yes. VYNLT Desktop watches bounce folders and asks “Add as Mix 20?”, or adds automatically. The Uploader role can add versions without downloading everyone else’s originals.
What happens if I leave?
Download your originals, export projects as plain folders with a manifest, or keep the backup already sitting in your own cloud. Your music is not locked in.
Security and teams
Can labels require 2FA?
Yes. An organization can require two-factor for every member, and passkeys or security keys for admins.
Is VYNLT end-to-end encrypted?
No, and we don’t claim it: servers process audio to stream it and draw waveforms. Audio is encrypted in transit and at rest by the storage provider; access is controlled by roles and short-lived signed links. See Security.
Who can hear an unreleased song?
Only people with a role on it, and anyone you send a private link to. Without access, a song doesn’t appear to exist.
Can I see who downloaded something?
Organization admins can read an audit history of downloads, share-link opens, approvals and sign-ins.
One home for every song.
Versions. Feedback. Masters. Your studio. Your cloud. Your team.
