Back up to your own storage

Keep an independent, checksum-verified copy of every original in storage you own, check that backups are healthy, and restore from them.

  • Local and NAS backup: Studio, Label

This guide is for organization owners and admins. A backup copies a workspace or project from VYNLT into storage you control, in a readable folder layout with a checksummed manifest. If you ever leave, or something goes wrong, the files are still yours.

You can back up to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or a WebDAV server (such as Nextcloud, ownCloud or a NAS with WebDAV turned on).

Connect your storage

  1. Open Backup & Sync.
  2. Under External clouds, choose Connect.
  3. For Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, choose Sign in and allow access. VYNLT only touches its own folder.
  4. For NAS (WebDAV), pick your server type (Synology, QNAP, UGREEN, Nextcloud / ownCloud or Other WebDAV), enter the Server URL, your Username and a Password or app password, then Save.

No WebDAV, or a NAS that isn't reachable from the internet? Use the desktop app instead: see Back up to a NAS or network drive.

Credentials are stored encrypted and never shown again. VYNLT writes into its own folder there and never deletes your other files.

Choose what to back up

  1. Under Backups, choose New backup.
  2. Under What to back up, pick a whole workspace (including projects added later) or one project, and the Destination.
  3. Choose a Mode:
    • Backup: copy everything. Never deletes anything in your storage.
    • Mirror: like Backup, and files removed in VYNLT move to a trash folder there.
    • Two-way: also brings in files you drop into the Versions, Masters or Stems folders.
    • Restore: import only, from that storage into VYNLT.
    • Manual export: runs only when you choose Run now.
  4. Choose How often: Immediately, Hourly, Daily or Manually.
  5. Save it.

Folders are laid out as Workspace / Project / Song / Versions, Masters, Stems and Lyrics, with a manifest listing the SHA-256 of every file.

Check backup health

  • Backup & Sync shows each storage connection's state, such as Backing up · 12 to go, Can't reach storage or Needs a decision.
  • Each backup shows its last run. Choose Run now to start one, Pause or Resume, and open Run history to see past runs.
  • Failed files lists anything that didn't copy. Choose Retry failed.
  • Backup report summarises every backup in the organization. Protection by project shows which projects are covered.
  • Each song's backup state shows on the song page.

Restore

  1. Under Backups, find the backup and choose Restore.
  2. Read the summary and choose Start restore.

VYNLT reads the backup's manifest and rebuilds any versions, stems and files that are missing. Every file is checked against its checksum before it's accepted, and nothing that already exists is overwritten. You get a notification when it finishes. For a preview first, use Export, import & restore → Restore from a backup and Preview restore (see Export and restore).

Common problems

  • "Can't reach storage". Check the server address and that it's online, and that your password or app password still works. Reconnect if needed.
  • "Needs a decision". A file changed in two places. Open Conflicts and choose which copy to keep, or Keep both.
  • New backup is greyed out. Connect a storage location first.
  • Backups aren't offered. Backups to your own storage depend on your plan, and you need to be an owner or admin.
  • Removing a backup. Remove stops future copies. Files already copied stay in your storage.
