Share music with a private link
Send a song, version, project or playlist to named people, choose a security level, add a password or expiry, see who listened and revoke a link.
Available on Artist · Producer · Studio · Label
- Secure sharing: Artist, Producer, Studio, Label
- Watermarked links: Label
This guide is for anyone sending unreleased music outside the project. VYNLT links are bound to named people: each recipient signs in with a VYNLT account that uses the email address you sent it to. A forwarded link doesn't open for anyone else. Recipients can create a free account if they don't have one.
Share
- Open the song, version, project or playlist and choose Share. To share one exact version, open its options (⋯) in the Versions tab and choose Share this version.
- Under Share with (email addresses), type one or more addresses.
- Under Security, pick a preset: Standard, Protected or High Security (see below).
- Change anything you like. Changing a setting by hand shows Custom settings.
- Choose Send to 2 people (or Send link). The link is copied, and each person gets an email.
Security presets
- Standard: a verified account with the invited email, streaming only, for 7 days.
- Protected: Standard, and recipients need two-factor.
- High Security: Protected, and the link expires in 24 hours with downloads off.
Settings you can change
- Password (optional): recipients also need the password.
- Expires: In 24 hours, In 7 days, In 30 days or Never. Your organization may set a maximum.
- Recipients need two-factor: they must have an authenticator app or a passkey on their account.
- Recipients can leave timestamped notes: notes from their own account, shown to the team.
- Allow downloading original files: otherwise it's streaming only.
- Watermark each recipient's copy: each person hears a copy marked for them, to help trace a leak. This depends on your plan.
See who listened
- Under Existing links, choose Link stats for opens, plays, how much was listened to and downloads.
- The song's Listening tab shows plays across the library, share links, Focus Sessions and fan pages, by listener and version. Choose Export CSV to download it.
Change or revoke a link
Every link for this item is listed under Existing links, as active, expired or revoked.
- Revoke stops it opening, straight away, for everyone on it.
- Duplicate link makes a new link with the same recipients and settings.
- Use current makes a link play the song's current version from now on.
- People who aren't on a link can ask for access. Their requests show on the link: choose Approve or Decline.
Common problems
- "This link isn't for this account". The recipient is signed in with a different email. They should sign in with the address you sent it to, or you can share again with the address they use.
- "Turn on two-factor to listen". The link or your organization requires two-factor. The recipient chooses Set up two-factor and then comes straight back.
- "This link is no longer active". It expired or was revoked. Send a new one.
- The Share button isn't there. Your role doesn't allow sharing. Ask a manager for the Editor role or higher.
