Master Vault and Official Masters
Mark the one Official Master for each song and variant, lock it, and check it against its checksum wherever it's kept.
Available on Studio · Label
This guide is for artists, studios and labels finishing a release. There is exactly one Official Master per song and variant (such as Clean, Instrumental or Radio Edit). Nobody has to ask which file is final.
Mark an Official Master
- Open the song and choose the Versions tab.
- Open the final master's options (⋯) and choose Mark as Official Master…. Or open the Masters tab and choose Mark as Official Master.
- Choose the Variant.
- Confirm it's you when asked, with your passkey or two-factor.
Its checksum is recorded at that moment. Earlier masters stay in the history.
Lock it
On the Masters tab, choose Lock. A locked master can't be replaced by accident. Taking the lock off needs a reason, confirming it's you, and tells the admins.
Check it's intact
- Choose Verify to check the master against its checksum now. VYNLT also re-checks masters regularly.
- Master Vault in the menu lists every Official Master, where it's kept and when it was last checked.
- On a phone app, the Master Vault opens after Face ID, Touch ID, your fingerprint or your device passcode.
Common problems
- "This master in VYNLT Cloud doesn't match its checksum." Restore it from a verified copy shown below the message.
- I can't mark a master. You need a role that can approve on the project (Manager and above), and your plan must include the Master Vault.
- Downloading asks me to sign in again. Downloading a master can need a fresh confirmation. This is on purpose.
