Install the desktop app on Mac or Windows

This guide is for producers, engineers, studios and artists who work on a computer. The desktop app opens the whole of VYNLT in its own window, keeps chosen projects in a folder on your computer, catches bounces from your DAW, streams Live sessions and installs the DAW plugin.

Download

1. Go to Download.
2. Mac: choose Download for macOS · Apple silicon (M1 and later) or Download for macOS · Intel. You need macOS 12 or later.
3. Windows: choose Download for Windows · 64-bit (x64). You need Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.

Signed in already? Settings → This device & transfers also shows a Desktop app download for your computer.

Install on a Mac

1. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
2. Drag the VYNLT app into Applications.
3. Open it from Applications. The Mac app is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens normally.

Install on Windows

1. Open the downloaded .exe file.
2. If Windows shows Windows protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway. This appears because the Windows app isn't code-signed yet. You only see it once.
3. Follow the installer. It installs for your Windows user only, without asking for administrator permission.

Sign in

1. Open the app and choose Sign in with your browser.
2. Your browser opens on VYNLT. Sign in the way you normally do (passkey, password and two-factor, or single sign-on).
3. Check that the code matches the one in the app, then choose Approve. You are asked to confirm it's you.
4. Go back to the app. Or choose Sign in with email and password here to sign in inside the app.

Choose your folder

1. Under Choose your VYNLT folder, choose Choose… and pick a folder just for VYNLT. Don't pick your whole home folder, Documents or Desktop: the app warns you if you do.
2. Check This computer's name.
3. Choose Start syncing.

What you'll see

• The VYNLT window, with This computer in the sidebar: Capture Inbox, Watching, Go Live, DAW plugin and Sync & setup.
• An icon in the menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows). Closing the window keeps VYNLT running there. Turn this off with Keep VYNLT in the menu bar when the window is closed.
• Updates download by themselves. Choose Restart to update when it appears, or Check for updates in the app's settings.

Common problems

• "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info → Run anyway (see above).
• The browser sign-in says "That code isn't valid or has expired". Start again from the app.
• The app says it can't reach VYNLT. Check your internet connection. The window retries every 20 seconds, or choose Try again.
• I signed in to the wrong account. Open the app's settings and choose Sign out, or Add another account to use two accounts on one computer.
