Compare versions A/B
Switch between two to four versions at the same moment, level-matched, leave feedback on a section and run a blind test.
Available on Artist · Producer · Studio · Label
This guide is for anyone deciding between mixes. A/B compare plays two to four versions of a song in step, so switching keeps your place in the song.
Compare two or more versions
- Open the song and choose the Versions tab.
- Tick the box next to two, three or four versions.
- Choose Compare A/B (or Compare A/B/C, Compare A/B/C/D).
- Press play. Switch between versions with the buttons, or press the number keys 1 to 4. Space plays and pauses.
For a quick check against the current version, open any version's options (⋯) and choose Compare with current. If the song has a reference track, Current vs reference compares with it.
Level matching
With two versions, tick Level-match. VYNLT turns the louder version down to the quieter one, so you judge the mix and not the volume. It never boosts, and it never changes your files. With three or four versions, use Gain trim per version instead.
Blind tests
Tick Blind — hide which is which. The versions play in a random order as X and Y. Choose the one you prefer under Which do you prefer?, then choose Reveal. Team picks and notes stay hidden until you reveal, so they don't sway your ears.
Feedback on a section
- Drag across the waveform to select a section, or shift-drag to set a loop.
- Choose Leave feedback and write your note, then Post feedback.
- To ask for that section in the next mix, choose Use this section in the next mix, add a note and choose Create request.
To keep a comparison for the team, choose Save for the team. Others can open it from the song later.
Common problems
- Level-match is greyed out. Loudness hasn't been measured yet. Wait until both versions have finished processing.
- A version can't be ticked. It is still processing.
- It jumps when I switch. Make sure both versions start at the same point in the song. Versions with different intros won't line up.
