Push-to-talk in Live

Choose a key, key combination or mouse button to talk during a Live session, pick hold or toggle, and allow Input Monitoring on a Mac.

Available on Listener · Artist · Producer · Studio · Label

This guide is for Live hosts and listeners who don't want to keep clicking Hold to talk. You can set a key, a key combination or a mouse button (side buttons work too). Your microphone is still only sent while you talk.

Set your key (host, in the desktop app)

  1. Open Go Live and pick a Talkback microphone.
  2. Under Push-to-talk, choose Set push-to-talk key.
  3. Press the key, key combination or mouse button you want. Esc cancels.
  4. Under Mode, choose Hold: talk while the key is held or Toggle: press to start, press again to stop.
  5. If you like, set Stop talking automatically after and tick Short sound when talking starts and stops (only you hear it).

The key works even while your DAW is in front. A key on its own (without Control, Option or Command) also talks while you type in other apps, and still types there. A combination or a mouse side button avoids that. Choose Clear to remove the key.

Allow Input Monitoring on a Mac

To see your key while another app is in front, macOS needs your permission.

  1. When VYNLT asks, choose Open Input Monitoring settings.
  2. In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring, turn on VYNLT.
  3. Go back to the Go Live window and choose Check again.

Until then, the key only works while the Go Live window is in front. VYNLT watches only the key you chose. Other keys are never recorded or sent.

Set your key (listener, in the browser)

  1. On the Live page, choose Set push-to-talk key and press the key or mouse button you want.
  2. Pick Hold or Toggle under Mode.

In a browser the key works while the Live page is in front. Talking stops if you switch to another window or tab. The key is saved in that browser only.

Common problems

  • The key does nothing while my DAW is in front (Mac). Allow Input Monitoring (see above), then choose Check again.
  • Talking stopped by itself. For safety, talking stops when another window comes to the front (listeners), when the computer sleeps or locks, and after the Stop talking automatically after time.
  • The key types letters in my DAW. Use a combination with Control, Option or Command, or a mouse side button.
  • Windows: the key doesn't work in one app. If that app runs as administrator, Windows hides its key presses from VYNLT. Run the app normally, or use the key while the Go Live window is in front.
